Who We Are
Mitkof Dance Troupe began as Steppin Out Dance Studio, the first performing arts school in Petersburg, Alaska. As Steppin’ Out the studio was owned and operated by our founder, Melinda Anderson, and governed by a student-led board.
Steppin’Out Dance Studio became The Mitkof Island Dance Troupe, a non-profit organization. It is run by a governing board made up of volunteer parents, community members and students.
We continue to hold classes in two small studios rented from the Episcopal Church in downtown Petersburg, conveniently located by the schools.
We have a wonderful set of assets: 2 loving and dedicated teachers producing sold-out recitals, 75 enthusiastic dancers (ages 4-18), measurable and immeasurable community support.
