Mitkof Dance Troupe
MDT strives to empower individuals in body and mind through dance education and creative movement. We inspire community wellness and the continued development of performing arts in Petersburg.
Our Journey
Today’s Mitkof Dance Troupe began in 1996 as Steppin Out Dance Studio, the first performing arts school in Petersburg, Alaska. It was owned and operated by our founder, Melinda Anderson, and governed by a student-led board.
In 2013, Steppin’ Out Dance Studio became The Mitkof Island Dance Troupe, a non-profit organization run by a volunteer board of community members. Mitkof Dance Troupe has gone from 1 to 6 teachers and our student body is now over 125 students.
